Horseback Riding Lessons

FAQs

How do I book a lesson? Book your riding lesson on our home page or directly on Vagaro – classes and private/semi-private lesson appointments available!

What should I bring to my lesson? Please arrive appropriately dressed for your lesson with long pants and boots with a small heel. All clients and visitors must wear closed toe shoes while on the property. Students must provide their own correctly-fitted ASTM-SEI approved equestrian riding helmet. If you do not have a helmet and would like to borrow one, please contact us. We also recommend bringing a water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray in warmer weather.

Where can I get my own helmet or boots? We recommend you go to Adirondack Tack in Plattsburgh, NY.

How much do lessons cost? A spot in a pre-scheduled group class is $40, or $250 for 8 week class sessions. Outside of regular class times, private lessons are $75 and semi-private lessons are $50. (Please note our website may not be regularly updated, so please contact us for most current pricing.)

Our spring 2023 8-week sessions are:

  • Youth A: Tuesdays May 2-June 20 at 3:30 pm
  • Youth B: Wednesdays May 3-June 21 at 3:30 pm
  • Adult A: Thursdays May 11-July 6
  • Adult B: Fridays May 12-July 7

Do you offer summer camp programs? We do offer day camps in the summer months. All sessions are Monday-Friday, 8:30-2:30. Our camp programs are quite intensive so we recommend them for ages 10+ but will make exceptions for dedicated young riders.

Our 2023 day camp sessions are:

  • Session 1: June 26th-30th
  • Session 2: July 10th-14th
  • Session 3: August 7th-11th

Can you come to me to work with me and/or my horse? Yes. Please contact us directly at 518-578-2392/CSGhorses@gmail.com before booking an off-farm appointment. We also welcome truck-ins to lessons on our farm.

More about our lesson program

Riding lessons are available for all ages and levels. We offer general riding classes as well as more specialized classes focusing on specific skills or disciplines. Class sizes are small, and you are always welcome to book private and semi-private classes for more personalized learning.

Our lesson program is focused on building good horsemanship, regardless of discipline or a rider’s competitive goals. We seek to empower people through relationships with horses, and the active outdoor lifestyle of being an equestrian. While you’ll be learning how to ride, and ride very well, you can expect to gain knowledge about horse behavior, husbandry and equine science as well.

We have designed our lesson program around the Certified Horsemanship Association‘s standards and curriculum, as well as Chauntel’s experiences across many different equestrian programs. We are also an approved Time To Ride program facility through the American Horse Council.

At CSG Horsemanship, our horses are not only our co-workers, but our family members. They receive regular veterinary and farrier care, are on tailored, holistic diets, and are regularly schooled by our head instructor. Whenever possible they have 24/7 pasture turnout in a herd. Their working schedule is as per industry standards and the majority of our training/conditioning program is hacking out. We firmly believe in taking responsibility for our horses the entirety of their lives.
