About Chauntel

Chauntel Gillilland’s diverse equestrian career spans from pony hunters in Virginia, to western equitation and trail in southern California, to foxhunting in England. A Government major at St. Lawrence University, she trained at the university’s Elsa Gunnison Appleton Riding Hall. She worked as the trainer and riding instructor at Pray Road Stables therapeutic riding program in Ogdensburg, New York. She was also the barn manager and assistant riding director at Pok-O-MacCready Camps and trail guide, riding instructor and trainer for Mountain View Stables in Danby, VT.

Chauntel was the barn manager and trainer for Crane Mountain Valley Horse Rescue, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit horse rescue in Westport, NY. Her responsibilities there included daily chores, wound care, physical therapy, training, and rehabilitation. She also led education and outreach programs, volunteer management, farrier and veterinary care.

Chauntel volunteers as a leader in Essex County 4-H horse program, heading up the county-wide horse group, the Reber Valley Riders 4-H club.

Chauntel serves as a director for the Northern region on the New York State Horse Council. She is a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club, United States Equestrian Federation, and the Certified Horsemanship Association.

Chauntel is a Level III certified riding instructor in the Certified Horsemanship Association. She was awarded 2020 Horsewoman of the Year by New York State Horse Council.

Located in the rugged Adirondack Park and sweeping Champlain Valley of upstate New York, Ben Wever Farm is a multi-generational family farm that, in addition to CSG’s equine services, produces grassfed cattle, sheep and and free-range eggs.
